Affiliate programs are a great way for anyone to start to earn extra cash online.  In this day and age and in this economic climate, who can’t use extra cash? Affiliate programs are really a no brainer when it comes to starting your online venture.  Why?  Little to no start up cost, no website or html knowledge required, no sales copy to write, no product creation, no customer service issues, returns, etc.

So, if all of that is taken care of, how does one go about making income with affiliate programs?  Thats a good question.  You must get people to the sales page.  This is the part where most people fail.  Then they become discouraged, and distracted.  They usually end up moving on to another program or business, and the whole process repeats itself.  You end up spinning your wheels and getting frustrated until you are convinced that there is something you are missing.

If you send someone directly to a sales page, regardless if they purchase or not, you have lost that person as a potential customer for ever.  It was your efforts that got them to the sales page, why not get them on your mailing list, so that you may follow up with them over a period of time.  You need to build your list during this process, because few people will buy a product after a single exposure. Research has shown that people need to be exposed to an offer an average of seven times before buying.  Of course there are those that have already been exposed to the product and are on the fence, or have a need that can be filled now by purchasing.  So sending all your leads to a squeeze page first makes good sense.  Your efforts brought them there, ensure yourself the ability to follow up with them and/or recommend additional products and/or services.  So before you even start to generate traffic, have 2 squeeze pages that you can split test to see which one brings in better results.  After a period of time, replace the one with the poorest results with a new one, and split test again. Continue this process until you feel you have a winning squeeze page.

Traffic is the key to any Internet business. To create a steady stream of long term traffic, you must be consistent in your efforts.  Pay Per Click (PPC) is not recommended for those starting out, you should do your due diligence and read the ins and outs at the Google adwords website.  Google is the one that changes it up from time to time, so I would go through all their information first. Be warned, although some marketers make a fortune with it, use PPC with caution. You can spend a large amount of money with little or NO results to show for it.  Articles, e books, mini-sites, blogs, review sites, ezine and Newsletter advertisements are much better for the new affiliate marketer to start generating traffic.  There is no magic bullet here. Just consistent effort in a few of these area will help put you on autopilot.
