You Started a Home Based Business, Now What?

Are you one of the many people who recently took the leap and started a home based business? Depending on what type of business you are in, you may be very confused, frustrated and/or overwhelmed.  If you are having some success you are probably elated.  If you are not experiencing success, you are becoming frustrated. Trust me I know. Have no fear, a couple tips and some encouragement, and you will be on your way to success.

Depending on what niche your in, or what type of program or product you promote, you must remember that you will have to dedicate time doing all the things that will increase your exposure. Blogs, articles, and/or  forum participation are going to be a big part of both bringing you traffic, and branding you as “someone who has reasonable knowledge of a topic” (sorry, watching CSPAN), and both of these things are very good when it comes to your business. Much like hikers on a trail, many people have a marketing plan provided to them by the program or product the are promoting.  Follow the plan, give it time and you will get to your destination, deviate from the plan and you start wandering in circles, losing your bearings and ultimately becoming lost and frustrated. Stick to the plan and don’t deviate and you will be fine.

Here are some important tips to keep you “on the trail”:

  • Set goals and time frames – be realistic!
  • Follow the marketing plan – if it says submit a press release first, don’t move on till it’s done
  • Be disciplined – do the things you need to do daily, visit forums, comment on other blogs, write articles
  • Stick with the training – if they have weekly calls, get on them
  • Find a Mentor – very important. Find someone having success, they are happy to teach you
  • Never Stop Learning – As you continue down the trail to success, continue to learn the new trends
  • DON’T QUIT!

Persistence is the key, you simply can not quit due to what you consider slow or poor results. Give it time, and keep plugging away and try to have a little bit of fun. You have nothing to lose, but your poverty.
